Tuning in to Spirit Through Channeling

Channeling is the practice of receiving information, energy, or messages from a source outside your everyday conscious mind — a guide, a higher self, a collective consciousness, or something the channeler may not even fully define. Some people speak the words aloud. Others write automatically, paint, or simply feel a download of insight arrive fully formed.
Channeling and mediumship are often confused, but they’re not the same thing. Mediumship specifically involves communicating with the spirits of people who have died, usually to relay personal messages to the living. Channeling is broader. The source might be a deceased person, but it’s just as likely to be described as a spirit guide, an ascended master, an angelic presence, or simply “universal wisdom.” Mediums are channelers, but not all channelers are mediums.
Most practitioners believe anyone can channel. The common teaching is that channeling is less a rare gift and more a skill — like meditation or intuition — that strengthens with practice and a quiet mind. Estimates on how many people actively channel vary wildly and aren’t scientifically tracked, but some teachers suggest a notable minority of the population has had at least one spontaneous channeling-like experience, even if they never call it that.
Messages come through in a variety of ways; some channelers go into a trance-like state and have little memory of what came through, while others stay fully alert, describing it more like an inner dictation or a thought that “isn’t quite mine.” Many say the words feel calmer, wiser, or more articulate than their normal inner voice.
The thing to remember when opening to channel is the tone using a few markers: the message should feel loving rather than fearful, it should encourage your own discernment rather than blind obedience, and it shouldn’t pressure, frighten, or demand secrecy. If something feels coercive or off, most teachers advise stepping back immediately.
The Well of Roswell this week has two channeling events. Developing Your Channeling Skills with Vicki Evans is Tuesday night where she gives tips on channeling and opportunities to practice with others. The Emerald Circle with Becky Crispell Arrington is Wednesday evening and consists of spirited discussion regarding spiritual topics, a guided meditation and a live channeling. And then on Saturday the 27th Mists & Magic: Create Your Own Vibrational Healing Sprays with Melissa Vojta will help you "channel" intentions and spirit into you own essential oil spray.
