About The Event
This series of paintings combines floral and botanical elements, enigmatic human figures and mysterious machines that are sometimes antiquated looking contraptions and sometimes futuristic space-age technologies of unknown origin.
The joy comes from putting these elements together in such a way as to invoke awe and mystery. If these works do what I would like them to, it would be to connect the viewer to that inner-most part of themselves that finds joy and wonder in the opening-up to an unknown world of great potential.
Richard Edward-Hicks (aka-Visibleman) spent his formative years in midwestern farm country. At 10 years of age, Hicks moved to Atlanta, GA with his family, and except for two years of living in NYC (2000-2002) had been a resident of the South ever since. Hicks began his creative career at Georgia State University where he studied Illustration and Graphic Design. He earned a BVA (Bachelors of Visual Arts) and has worked in art and design-related fields for his entire professional career.
In addition to a career as an illustrator and designer, Hicks earned an MA (Masters of Arts) from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). He also exhibits his work and paints live at art and music events.
